R - Receive Compliments

Article by
Rachel Willis

Imagine that you’re out shopping and spot something you think your loved one will adore…

…So you buy it, wrap it up with care, give it to them, and then they say they don’t want it. No word of thanks or explanation, and certainly no appreciation for the thought you put into the gift.

How would you feel? My guess is pretty annoyed, and inclined to think twice before buying them another present.

Compliments are just the same as these gifts.

They are well considered presents that people offer because they want to.
Shrugging compliments off, belittling them or – worst of all – vociferously denying them, is comparable to shoving their gift back in their face.

Yes, you may be sceptical about the truth of what people say, you may be shy and unsure what to say in response, or you may cynically wonder what their motives are, but regardless of this, be sure to smile, say thank you and receive their compliments with grace.
