How often do you say to yourself, “I should go to the gym tonight”, “I shouldn’t buy this” or “I should call her”?
More often than not, we don’t do what we say we should but do what we say we shouldn’t, thereby setting ourselves up to feel like failures and guilty weak-willed women.
These constraints come from media pressure to conform to the social ‘norm’, and as such, we should (!) question their validity.
Instead of getting caught up in the frenzy, be kind to yourself. Set yourself up to succeed.
The easiest way to do this is to erase the words should and shouldn’t from your vocabulary. If you want to do something, say you will, and if you don’t want to, say you won’t. It’s as simple as that, no justification or explanation needed.
This removes the sense of obligation and greatly reduces negative feelings by building self worth, confidence and trust in ourselves.
A small change, but a large effect.
