Although these light-hearted moments of abandon are often the first to be crossed off the to-do list when our responsibilities pile up, this is actually counterproductive.
Whether it’s playing on the seesaw, roundabout and swings, dressing up in flares, wig and false lashes for a 70’s night, or a no-holds barred game of Tiddlywinks, Hungry-Hippos or Kerplunk, the laughter, joy and diversion provide a valuable ‘time out’ from the rigours of everyday life.
Far from being a waste of precious time, I consider play to be an essential part of leading a fabulous life.
Just 5 minutes of silliness can rejuvenate even the most weary bodies, overburdened minds and deflated spirits.
In addition, play allows sparks of creativity to burst into flames because we regress to the imaginative, optimistic and open-minded girl we were before social conditioning moulded our lives.
So next time you find yourself pondering a conundrum in life, grab the nearest hairbrush, turn the radio up to full volume and give your inner child the chance to let loose!
