February - love it or loathe it…

Article by

Not surprisingly over a billion Valentine cards are sent worldwide each year, 85% of these are from women and 3% are sent to our adored and cherished pets!

Now, maybe it’s just me but I do find the whole ‘February 14th’ just a little ‘overdone’ now…You go out for dinner and you’ll have someone shoving a bucket in your face asking for a ridiculous amount of money for a single rosebud that will never bloom and wilts the moment you free it from it’s tightly wrapped plastic. When you walk into a card shop you’re faced with a barrage of red and it’s not just cards they want us to buy oh no!, we’re now cajoled into buying fluffy puppies, kittens, monkeys carrying ‘I luv U’ hearts and waving their little ‘Luv you 4 ever’ flags and staring at us with those big brown eyes…yes, our man will appreciate this token of our love and he’ll reciprocate with a bunny who says ‘be mine’ when you squeeze it’s tummy and a card the size of a small car that declares undying love blah, blah, blah…

Urgh, I’m feeling queasy!

But hey, that’s just me and it’s a huge industry so I’m obviously in the minority here. I’ve started a poll in TALK; let me know whether you send a card…

Are you a Paraskevidekatriaphobic?

Yes, we have an official, rather long and scary word for those of us who are petrified of Friday 13th. It is, apparently, the most widespread superstition and unfortunately this year, we’ve three of them to contend with and two, this month and next, are running right in a row – eek!

Are you superstitious – share your experiences with us in TALK

And finally for me, February is an exciting month as it’s my little boy’s first birthday!

This time last year I was HUGE and was thinking that I still had another 6 weeks to go so it all came as a bit of surprise when I went into labour at a client meeting (without knowing it!) and then Max was born the next morning. Thank you to all the staff at Wexham hospital and especially the Special Care Baby Unit for taking such good care of us both.

To end, I want to leave you with another of my favourite quotes – so for all those who are single and loving their carefree lives you can quote this to all those who immediately presume that you must be ‘desperate for a man’.

What a lovely surprise to discover how un-lonely being alone can be

Have a fabulous February!
