Get ready to (LaLa) Rock
LaLa Rocks – A gorgeous new brand, creating bracelets from semi-precious stones launches this month, and having already developed a celebrity following, it’s sure to become a cult classic.
LaLa Rocks has been launched by Carla Hancox, who found the beautiful bracelets she made for herself and her friends were getting so much attention that she developed the concept into a retail business.
The bracelets are all made from stones including cornelian, aquamarine, onyx, rose quartz and freshwater pearls and combined with silver or gold, and with prices starting at £49, they’re an affordable luxury to add style to every outfit.
LaLa Rocks has already secured a celebrity following, with Manchester City player Gareth Barry’s wife Louise wearing a range of the bracelets to Wayne Rooney’s birthday party last month and England goalkeeper Joe Hart flying the flag and showing that they’re not just for girls!
Each bracelet is hand-made and uses high-quality stones to ensure that every one is unique. Suitable for men and women, options include skull-shaped howlite beads, twinkling amethysts and crystals, vibrant strings of turquoise and cornelian, and look great worn alone or stacked one above another – ideal if you simply can’t decide which colour you prefer.
Carla says: “Obviously, I think they’re lovely, and I made a couple for myself because I liked the way they looked and combining the different stones, but then a few friends admired them so I made one for them, and then their friends admired them…and it went from there. Before I knew it I was getting so many requests that I sat down with a business advisor and decided to take the plunge and set up LaLa Rocks.
“I love combining the different stones and learning about the different properties that they have – some are birth stones, some are said to have special healing qualities and some are traditionally associated with certain anniversaries – for example, amethysts are traditionally the Aquarius birth stone, and are associated with the fourth and sixth wedding anniversary, while aquamarine is the stone for Pisces and is associated with the 19th wedding anniversary – however, it’s also said to be a good luck stone for sailors to protect them at sea, and it’s meant to have powers that heal throat problems and stress related illnesses – it’s fascinating!
“Combining the research factor of the stones with dying certain stones to make them more stylised is really enjoyable, I love the whole process. It does mean that people can get more involved in the jewellery they buy, finding out what the different qualities are and what occasions they relate to, to create a really thoughtful gift for someone.
“The fashion factor is important too – while an array of beautifully coloured fresh-water pearls offer timeless style and elegance to everything from the classic LBD to everyday jeans, the edgy skull-cut stones offer rock ‘n’ roll chic to complement this season’s leather-look leggings and toughen up cosy knits and dazzling party frocks for the girls, while the onyx, turquoise and cornelian are more popular with guys, especially those with an eye for detail who prefer to steer clear of the bling,” she advises.
