Julie launched Latitude Underwear in October. She says: “The idea had been in my head for ages. Men are always buying women pretty, sexy, sensual lingerie as a gift, but let’s face it, there’s something in it for them too! As long as it is pretty, or sexy and sensual, we’re delighted to wear it and they get a kick out of seeing it on, and of course, helping to take it off…
“But there’s never been a counterpart. Often, we’re stuck with the less than imaginative gift options of cufflinks, ties, or worse, socks. I carried out market research and didn’t feel there was anything really stylish or distinctive, nothing that luxurious or special. Especially when you compare what’s on offer for women.
“When you consider men are increasingly body conscious and aware of grooming, it follows that they’d want to put the same amount of care into what they wear beneath their carefully chosen outfit. And since research shows that it’s mostly women who buy men’s underwear, I wanted to create a range of underwear that gave women the same thrill to give as it did the lucky guys who get to wear it,” she says.
And so, Latitude Underwear For Men was created to fill the niche in the market!
The brand’s first range of handsome, stylish men’s underwear has been designed and manufactured in Britain and has been modelled by real British blokes, not by professional models.
Having invested over five years driving the success of a multi-million pound ethical business, Julie Devonshire, the Chief Operating Officer behind the leading social-enterprise One Water has chosen to take the helm as Managing Director of Latitude.
“I felt it was time to create my own venture – something that I could get passionate about, and have loads of fun with.
“We named the brand ‘Latitude’ because every item in our range has a geographic reference, each design is inspired by places that could be plotted on a map. Latitude Underwear is distinctive, stylish and clearly aimed at the luxury end of the market.”
The first range – ‘Cities’ – has been designed by Lena Karlsson and Simon Devonshire, who say that the pieces offer men a much appreciated chance to (un)dress to impress. Julie adds: “I have an important message to men: If you find yourself wearing only one item of clothing, make it a good one. Be handsome nearly naked.”
But Julie says that when it comes to showcasing the garments to their best effect, she needs a whole host of hot British guys, and who better to choose them than the discerning British woman?
“I’m offering women across Britain the chance to act as official Latitude talent scouts. I don’t want professional models to show these pants off – I want real men, chosen by real women. Those women acting on behalf of Latitude can approach buff blokes in bars, the gym, restaurants or a shopping centre, and tell them that we think they have what it takes to be a Latitude man, leave their card, and see if they have the confidence to follow that lead. I hope they will – we have some gorgeous guys here and this is their chance to show off!”
