Eco Beauty

With skin allergies on the rise (40% of the population, according to Allergy UK) and masses of products on the market, should we be taking a closer look at what is on our skin?

The outer layer of our skin (the epidermis) can be penetrated quite well by some oils, which are often used in products to carry the active ingredients into the deeper layers of the skin. Therefore, it makes sense to give more consideration to the products we apply and leave on our skins.

We absorb 60% of what we put on our skin, and the average woman comes into contact with as many as 175 different chemicals from the beauty products she uses every day!

Some labels such as “hypoallergenic” don’t have to be substantiated. Other labels such as “un-scented” or Fragrance-Free” don’t ensure that the product doesn’t contain fragrance, just that they have been sued to mask the odour of other chemicals.

Here are some top tips for some common problems, replaced with eco and natural alternatives;

Sunburn

Aloe Vera gel is naturally soothing and calming for skins that are over exposed to the sun. Look for natural products with high aloe Vera content, or even better 100% aloe Vera gel. It will help rescue the redness and irritation.

Cellulite

Coffee grounds can be sued as a body exfoliator to get rid of cellulite! Rub the grounds (starbucks give these out as freebies) into your problem areas during a shower for a natural cellulite treatment.

Dry skin

Use olive oil, organic is best. It has excellent moisturising properties. Apply at night for a smoother skin when you wake up.

Spots

At bed time, mix a few drops of tea tree oil with half a teaspoon of cosmetic clay. Dab on and leave over night.

Appearance of wrinkles

Eggs! Egg whites can be used to give an instant, natural facelift. Dab the whites directly onto lined areas and allow drying before continuing with your usual skincare routine. Combine with honey and lemon juice for a pick me up face pack!

Flaky Lips

Exfoliate dry, flaky lips with rock salt. Rub gently and rinse off and then apply your lip gloss.

Rebellious hair

Rehydrate your hair by mashing up a banana (must be ripe) and massage into your scalp, leave for 10 mins and rinse.

Puffy Eyes

Just by propping your head up with an extra pillow 15 mins before you get out of bed, will reduce the puffiness around the eyes. Gravity helps to drain the fluid so id doesn’t pool around the eyes.

Ageing

eating Strawberries can be beneficial in the fight against premature ageing. They are high in Vitamin C which is important for the formation of collagen. Strawberries also help protect against broken capillaries.

Skin Allergies

Sensitive skin sufferers are less likely to be sensitive to organic products; they are less likely to cause a reaction. This is usually down to the tiny amounts of synthetic chemicals.

I hope you have found at least a few of these tips useful. Please pass the tips on to others too!
