5 Ways to get in touch with your inner Alexis Carrington
Dynasty hasn’t been on TV for a long time now, but a certain Joan Collins’ legacy from that show still resonates today. Not to put too fine a point on it, her character Alexis was a bitch! Now, I’m not suggesting you get up to any of the crazy things she did…never mind the shoulder pads, but getting in touch with you inner Alexis can be a good thing!
Are you afraid of your inner Alexis? Are you always the nice girl who says yes to everyone but secretly resents all those people who take advantage of your good nature? Well getting in touch with your inner Alexis is actually about being assertive, learning when to say no and not feel guilty about it. Some people are very in touch with their inner Alexis…in fact she’s probably a bit more outer than inner!
So what’s a nice girl to do? I recommend not being hard on yourself and try to think of it this way:
- Don’t be afraid of your bitchiness. Contrary to what society says about the way women are supposed to be, you can still be nice with a bit of sass…in fact, it can have the surprising effect of people treating you with more respect.
- Think of your inner bitch as the spice which makes you interesting a wee bit unpredictable…but not in a crazy way!
- Remember, you don’t have to say that bitchy remark out loud. You can say to yourself “oh really, you thought stilettos at the gym was a good idea…?”. Chances are you’ll end up making yourself laugh and people are always intrigued by someone who’s smiling for no obvious reason.
- Learn to trust yourself to put limits on your inner vixen. You don’t have to ramp things up to Jordon vs. well, all other women really.
- Remember that saying ‘no’ to people is ok. You may feel like a bitch in the short term but it’s better to set limits on what you’re willing and able to commit to rather than agreeing to something and feeling resentful about it later.
